Myrtle Beach Resort Oceanfront Bar

  • by

One of the best amenities at the Myrtle Beach resort is the oceanfront beach bar. When the resort was built in the early 1980’s, plans called for an oceanfront pool, a reflecting pond and the beach bar. The pool is one of the largest oceanfront pools in the Myrtle Beach area. It sits directly in front of the A Building. The pond is in front of the B Building and the bar is in front of the Renaissance Tower.

According to some members of the Myrtle Beach Resort Facebook Group, the bar’s original name was the Last Resort. In the late 80’s the name was changed to the Boca Cobana. Here is a picture from 1989.

The old Boca Cabana

We are uncertain how long that name lasted. Sometime during the 90’s, the name was changed to the Crazy Pelican. That name stood for several years.

A new vendor took over the management of the food and beverage contract and changed the name to Shaggy’s. The Shaggy’s name stood for several years and into the early 2000’s.

During the mid 2000’s the contract changed hands again and the bar was renamed Nassau Ned’s. Ned’s held the naming rights for several years.

The current vendor took over before 2010 and the beach bar’s title is currently The Quarterdeck Beachside.

The current providers have done an excellent job over the years. They expanded the menu options with some fine tasting meals for guests and owners to enjoy.

Their signature frozen cocktails are a big hit for young and old alike. (The youngsters really enjoy the frozen nonalcoholic drinks) The adults rave about the quality of the drinks and the friendly bartenders and servers. The Quarterdeck is a big hit day and night with a variety of live music, DJs and karaoke.
